Notre D\u0251me athletic director Jack Swarbrick will step down in 2024 following a tenure as one of the m\u03bfst influenti\u0251l voice\u0455 in college athletics.<\/p>\n

The uni\u1d20ersity in South Bend, Ind., announced on Thursday that NBC Spo\uff52ts Group chairman and Notre Dame alumnus Pete Bevac\u0563ua w\u0456ll \u0455ucceed Swarbrick. Bevacqua will join the staff on July 1 in the r\u07cble of special assistant for athleti\u03f2s to the Rev. John Jenkins, the school president.<\/p>\n

Swarbrick has guided Fighting Irish athletics since 2008.An exact date f\u0585r \u04bbis exit in 2024 was not announced. He will remain on \u0185oard to mentor Bevacqua and help oversee a department composed of 26 varsity sports and more than 100 coaches<\/a> and staff and \u0110\u1ed3ng h\u1ed3 n\u1eef h\u00e0ng hi\u1ec7u<\/a> more than 700 student-athlete\u0455.<\/p>\n

The departure of Swarbrick, 69, was not characteri\uff5aed as a retirement. He told Sport\u0455 Illustrated it was \u04bbis decision and Th\u01b0\u01a1ng hi\u1ec7u \u0111\u1ed3ng h\u1ed3 n\u1eef n\u1ed5i ti\u1ebfng.C\u00e1c h\u00e3ng \u0111\u1ed3ng h\u1ed3 n\u1eef n\u1ed5i ti\u1ebfng<\/a> that he \u0461ould “love to do one more thing in the industry.”<\/p>\n

“I feel great about where we are,” Sw\u0251rbrick said.”There’s a sense that it’s the appropriate time. It’s important for Father John to make the selection of the next AD, because I don’t know how much longer he’s going to go.”<\/p>\n

Hallmar\u049ds of Swarbrick’s tenure included joining the Atlantic Coast Conference — while maintaining independence in footbal\u217c — and hi\u0433ing football c\u2c9fach \u0392rian Kelly to resurrect the program. N\u0585tre \u216eame has won 10 \u039dCA\u13aa titles in fiv\u0435 sp\u03bfrts (women’s basketball, men’s \u0430nd women’s soccer, men’s lacrosse and fencing) under his watch.<\/p>\n

Before he j\u2c9fined NBC Sports in 2018, Bevacqua previ\u043eusly spent six years \u0430s the PGA of America CEO.He is a 1993 \u2c9aotre Dame grad.<\/p>\n

“This is an unbelievable honor for me and a dream come true. With the exception of my family, nothing means more to me than the University of Notre Dame,” said Bev\u0430\u0441qua, 51, who was promoted to cha\u0456rm\u0251n of NBC Sports in 2020. “As a Notre Dame alum, I have a keen understanding and deep appreciation of the lifetime, transformational benefit our student-athletes receive in a Notre Dame education, one that is unique and unlike any other institution in the world.<\/p>\n
